FLORENCE, S.C.- The Florence RedWolves are currently offering an opportunity for current college level students looking to gain real world radio broadcasting experience to position themselves for a career in the sports and broadcasting industries upon graduation.

About the Florence RedWolves:

 The Florence RedWolves are a collegiate wooden bat baseball team that is a member of the Coastal Plain League.  The league has 15 teams that call Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia home.  The teams in the East Division are the Edenton Steamers, Fayetteville SwampDogs, Holly Springs Salamanders, Morehead City Marlins, Peninsula Pilots, Wilmington Sharks, and the Wilson Tobs.  The West Division is made up of the Asheboro Copperheads, Florence RedWolves, Forest City Owls, Gastonia Grizzlies, High Point- Thomasville Hi-Toms, Lexington County Blowfish, Martinsville Mustangs, and the Savannah Bananas. The teams play from the end of May to mid-August. Players come form Division I, II, & III schools from all over the country and Canada.

The Florence RedWolves were established in 1998. The team ownership changed hands in 2002, whenever Kevin and Donna Barth took over the franchise. Their philosophy is all about providing the Florence community with exciting family entertainment along with a great competitive baseball atmosphere every year. The RedWolves played their games at the Florence Legion Filed up until July of 2012, when the team moved to the beautiful Sparrow Stadium on the campus of Francis Marion University.

The RedWolves were the first and second half Western Division Champions in 2014 and CPL Championship Runners Up in the same season.  They had the 2014 Pitcher and Offensive Player of the Year, and hosted the 2015 Coastal Plain League All Star Game.

2017 Broadcasting Position

Start Date: Mid-May 2017

End Date: Mid-August 2017

Academic Qualifications: Majoring in Sport Management, Journalism, Mass Communications, or Business.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Willing to work long hours, weekends and holidays during home games
  • Computer savvy, comfortable with Microsoft Word, Photoshop, or any graphic design program
  • Video-editing abilities a plus
  • Extremely knowledgeable about the game of baseball

Description and Responsibilities: 

Every Florence RedWolves home game will be broadcasted live over the Internet on the Coastal Plain League Webpass (Audio Only). The team will have 28 home games throughout the course of the regular season, beginning late May through mid-August.

The radio broadcaster will be responsible for any pre-game assignments including game / player research, statistics, and interviews. The broadcast team will call the action of each home game, describing in detail the action of a highly competitive, summer collegiate baseball championship season. Potential post-game duties might include interviews, game recap, and Coastal Plain League results.

The radio broadcaster will work closely with the Director of Media Relations and Video Production Manager on all projects disseminated on a daily basis.

(Travel to road games is NOT required. Working all home games is a MUST)

Compensation: Local housing (apartment), meals provided for home games.

Credit: College credit towards a major, minor, or general elective required.

Video Production Manager

Description and Responsibilities:

Assist the Director of Media Relations, Assistant Director of Media Relations, and Photography Manager with all aspects of production of content for RedWolves Rewind and social media accounts.  This includes camera work directing live-action, as well as production and editing for individual clips, shows and features.   Responsibilities also include filming during games and creation of highlight reels for post-game recap video, interviews, and much more.  Ideal candidates should have experience with video editing. Will work as part of game presentation team to execute a memorable game experience for each and every one of our guests. Act as both a storyteller and historian to capture the imagination of our fan base.

(Working all home games and special team events is a MUST)
